Before reading the rest of this article we would like you to take a brief moment of silence for Justice Kennedy, who has served the Supreme Court of the United States with honor and distinction since the late 1980’s.
Justice Kennedy shocked the nation earlier this week with his announcement of retirement. To put it mildly, this announcement couldn’t have come at a worse time. We’re not saying that Justice Kennedy hasn’t earned the right to ride off into the sunset, but he must know that he is leaving behind an utter mess.
It’s as if a babysitter, after finding the toddler running around with a grenade and a doo doo in its diaper, decided to head upstairs to play a little game of seven minutes in heaven.
Justice Kennedy has been the swing vote in some of the most important court cases over the past few decades ranging from gay rights to abortion and his replacement could undo all of his monumental work.
This reality becomes even more stark when you realize who the White House is vetting as his replacement.
Rising from the ashes of his disgrace, after being figuratively thrown out of the white house, Trump is returning his favorite son glory.
No, it’s not Erik. No, it’s not Donald Jr. — it’s the guy Trump wishes could replace Jared Kushner. Yup, you guessed it — STEVE BANNON.
This registered racist and future sex offender will now become one of the most powerful people in the country. He will have the authority to overturn women’s right to choose, threaten gay couples right to marry nationwide and probably legalize all white colleges… probably.
If you’re not scared, you should be. If you’re not mad, you should be. If you’re not informed, you should be.
The repercussions of this nomination will have echos that will last a century, make sure your elected officials understand the importance of their voices and yours.
